The Initiation App
Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how The Initiation App ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our mobile application.
Information We Collect
We collect the following information to operate the app:
- Display name — an optional first name or nickname you provide at onboarding, used only to personalize your experience within the app.
- Anonymous user ID — a randomly generated identifier created automatically when you first open the app. This is not linked to your real-world identity unless you choose to create an account.
- Task descriptions — the text you enter to describe what you're trying to start. This is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) for processing and stored in your session history.
- Session data — blocker type, intervention delivered, reward selected, and whether you tapped "I started." Used to improve your experience over time.
- Subscription status — whether you have an active paid subscription, managed through RevenueCat.
- Push notification token — if you opt in to push notifications, we store a device token to send you re-engagement nudges.
How We Use Your Information
- To operate the core app experience (blocker diagnosis, intervention delivery, dopamine pairing)
- To personalize your experience with your display name
- To enforce daily session limits and subscription tier features
- To send push notifications if you have opted in
- To improve the app based on aggregated, anonymized usage patterns
We do not use your information for advertising.
AI Processing
Task descriptions you enter are sent to Anthropic for AI processing. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to this processing and can be found at anthropic.com/privacy. We send only the task text and session context necessary to generate a response — we do not send your name or any other identifying information to Anthropic.
Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services:
Data Retention
We retain your session data for as long as your account is active. Anonymous session data may be retained for up to 12 months for product improvement purposes. You can request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Request access to the data we hold about you
- Request deletion of your data
- Opt out of push notifications at any time via your device settings

GDPR and CCPA Rights (EU and California Users)
If you are located in the European Union or California, you have additional rights under GDPR and CCPA respectively:
- Right to access — you may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to erasure — you may request that we delete your personal data. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
- Right to portability — you may request your data in a portable format.
- Right to object — you may object to certain uses of your data.
We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. To submit a data request, email theinitiationapp@gmail.com with the subject line "Data Request." We will respond within 30 days.
Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this policy. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
